TLDR Social media videos made by dermatologists significantly improved patient knowledge about hair loss.
The study assessed the efficacy of a dermatologist-developed social media video library in improving patient knowledge of hair loss disorders. Conducted at NYU Langone Health, 100 patients were enrolled, with 90 completing the study. Participants watched videos on hair cycle physiology, topical minoxidil application, or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. Significant knowledge gains were observed across all topics, with cumulative survey scores increasing post-video. The only exception was a question on hair shedding with PRP, where no significant difference was noted. The study highlights the potential of video-based educational content in enhancing patient understanding of dermatologic health information, though it acknowledges limitations such as small sample size and lack of a control group.
