    Muhammad Ishaq, Saad Saleem
TLDR Clobetasol propionate 0.05% ointment is more effective than tacrolimus 0.1% ointment for treating alopecia areata.
In a randomized controlled trial conducted at the Combined Military Hospital in Nowshera, Pakistan, the efficacy of topical clobetasol propionate 0.05% ointment was compared to topical tacrolimus 0.1% ointment for treating alopecia areata. The study involved 62 patients, divided into two groups of 31 each, who applied the respective treatments for three months. Results showed that 74.2% of patients in the clobetasol group achieved treatment success, defined as a SALT score ≤4, compared to 45.2% in the tacrolimus group, with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.02). The study concluded that clobetasol propionate 0.05% is more effective and should be considered a preferred first-line topical therapy for alopecia areata.
