TLDR Both emollients effectively reduced itching and improved skin moisture in xerotic eczema.
The study investigated the effects of two emollients, one containing lactic acid and refined almond oil with polidocanol and the other without, on individuals with xerotic eczema. The randomized, double-blind study assessed itching severity, skin moisture, lipid content, and pH before and after treatment on Days 1, 7, and 14. Results showed a significant decrease in itching severity 30 minutes after the first application, with a maximum reduction of 63% and 69% by Day 14. Skin moisture and lipid content also improved significantly after the first application and continued to improve over 14 days. Both emollients were well-tolerated with few adverse events, suggesting their efficacy in reducing itching and restoring skin barrier function in xerotic eczema.
