TLDR Hair follicle pores help cell survival and growth, even after radiation.
The study examined the impact of radiation and hair follicle pores on fibroblast proliferation in an acellular human dermis using a rat model. It involved 24 rats divided into irradiated and non-irradiated groups, with further subdivisions based on the presence of hair follicle pores. Results indicated that radiation reduced cell proliferation, but the presence of hair follicle pores improved cell survival and proliferation even in irradiated conditions. This suggested that hair follicle pores could enhance cell viability and proliferation, which is crucial for tissue reconstruction post-neoadjuvant therapy.
