Effection of Epristeride and Finasteride on Spermatogenesis in Male Rats

The study investigated the effects of Epristeride, a 5α-reductase inhibitor, on spermatogenesis in male rats, comparing it with Finasteride and a starch control. Both Epristeride and Finasteride suppressed prostate development and reduced testis weight, with Finasteride being more potent in inhibiting epididymal sperm count. While Finasteride affected male reproductive function by reducing male gonad size, Epristeride did not have this effect. The conclusion was that high doses of both drugs suppressed prostate development and reduced testis weight, but only Finasteride impacted male reproductive function.
