Effect of Turbinate Intervention on Nasal Functions in Septorhinoplasty Surgery

    The study, involving 32 patients, investigated the impact of inferior turbinate reduction on nasal function in septorhinoplasty (SRP) surgeries. Patients were divided into two groups: Group I (17 patients) received SRP with turbinate reduction, while Group II (15 patients) had SRP without it. Assessments using a visual analogue scale (VAS) and acoustic rhinometry before and after nasal decongestion were conducted preoperatively and six months postoperatively. Group I showed a significant improvement in postoperative VAS scores and nasal volume measurements, suggesting enhanced nasal function. Group II also had improved VAS scores, but no significant change in acoustic rhinometry measurements. The study concluded that turbinate reduction during SRP provides functional benefits and should be considered in these surgeries.
