TLDR PRP injections may improve skin texture and wrinkles based on patient feedback, despite no significant changes seen by dermatologists.
In a study conducted over nearly four years with 27 participants, researchers examined the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections on photoaged facial skin. Participants received PRP injections on one cheek and saline injections on the other. While dermatologists did not notice a significant difference in photoaging scores between the treated and untreated sides, participants reported a significant improvement in skin texture and wrinkles on the PRP-treated side at 6 months after treatment. The study concluded that PRP may be beneficial for improving skin texture and wrinkles according to patient perceptions, despite the lack of observable differences by dermatologists. Adverse events were minor and temporary. Further research is suggested to explore the longevity and potential cumulative effects of PRP treatments.
