TLDR Millet extract, wheat germ oil, L-cystine, and calcium pantothenate reduced hair loss and improved hair growth in women with diffuse alopecia.
In a study from 2012, a treatment containing millet extract, wheat germ oil, L-cystine, and calcium pantothenate was tested on 53 women with telogen effluvium type diffuse alopecia. Over three months, the treatment led to a significant reduction in daily hair loss from 84.1 to 44.9 hairs, improved hair pull test results, and increased the anagen hair ratio in both frontal and occipital regions. While 15.1% of patients rated the treatment as very effective and 43.4% as effective, the study lacked a placebo control, and the authors called for larger, controlled studies to confirm the results. Only minor side effects were reported, and the digital phototrichogram was deemed an effective tool for evaluating treatment efficacy in alopecia.
