TLDR Effective anti-dandruff products work well against scalp microbes and stick to the skin.
The study explored the impact of hair care products on dandruff, suggesting that while the role of scalp micro-organisms was debated, lipolytic organisms in hair follicles might contribute to dandruff. Dandruff was seen as an adaptive response to scalp irritation, potentially caused by lipolysis products affecting the outer skin layer. No single pathogen was identified, but effective anti-dandruff products showed strong antimicrobial activity against typical scalp microflora and maintained effectiveness in the presence of sebum, with good adherence to the skin's outer layer.
