TLDR Using Tithonia diversifolia can boost rice growth and yield.
The study evaluated the effects of Tithonia diversifolia essential oil and powders on rice growth and yield in Lelem and Kompina, Cameroon, using NERICA 3 and NERICA 8 varieties. Conducted over two seasons (2018-2019), the experiment showed that treated plots had higher yields and larger 1000 seed weights (33 g) compared to control plots (29 g). The soil in Lelem was slightly basic, while Kompina's was acidic. A good emergence rate (96%) was observed, though seed-transmitted disease symptoms appeared in Kompina. The study concluded that NERICA varieties adapted well to upland rainy conditions, and the use of Tithonia diversifolia as a biofertilizer and biopesticide could enhance rice production.
