TLDR The hormonal contraceptive combination effectively reduces androgen excess and improves PCOS symptoms like acne, hair loss, and menstrual issues.
The study investigated the effects of a combination of ethinylestradiol and cyproterone acetate on symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in women, focusing on hyperandrogenic symptoms such as acne, hirsutism, and alopecia. Conducted in a private gynecological clinic, the study included women diagnosed with PCOS according to the Rotterdam criteria. Results showed significant improvement in acne, with 93.75% of patients showing improvement after 12 months. Alopecia improved in 83.33% of patients after more than 6 cycles, while 72.72% of patients with hirsutism showed improvement after 9-12 months. Menstrual irregularities and dysmenorrhea also improved, with good tolerance and satisfaction reported by most patients. The study concluded that the hormonal contraceptive combination effectively reduced androgen excess, the primary defect in PCOS, and improved related symptoms.

A 20-year-old started taking finasteride for hair loss at 18, saw improvement, but developed erectile dysfunction (ED) after taking accutane. Despite stopping both medications, ED persisted, and hair loss worsened. Advice given includes considering tadalafil for ED, resuming finasteride, using minoxidil, and addressing psychological factors through positive thinking and lifestyle changes.
