TLDR Auriculotherapy and Aslagh capsules are as effective as metformin for treating PCOS symptoms, with auriculotherapy slightly better for reducing hair growth.
This randomized clinical trial involving 72 women aged 18-43 compared auriculotherapy, Aslagh capsules, and metformin for treating PCOS symptoms over 3 months with a 1-month follow-up. All treatments significantly reduced menstrual cycle duration and increased menstruation occurrences, with no significant differences between groups. Acne scores decreased most in the auriculotherapy group, though not significantly different between groups. Hirsutism scores did not significantly decrease in any group. Auriculotherapy showed the most consistent improvement in reducing extra hair thickness and growth. Overall, auriculotherapy and Aslagh capsules were as effective as metformin, with auriculotherapy showing some marginally better outcomes in hair growth reduction.
