TLDR Early detection of tinea capitis is possible by spotting specific hair patterns like comma or corkscrew hairs.
In the early stages of tinea capitis caused by Trichophyton rubrum, the lesions are often small and easily overlooked, especially due to the presence of numerous hairs emerging from the follicle. However, it is important to pay attention to the partial presence of specific hair patterns, such as comma or corkscrew hairs and black spots, as these can be indicative of the condition. Early detection through dermoscopic examination can aid in the timely diagnosis and treatment of tinea capitis.
