Early-Onset Male Androgenetic Alopecia Associated with Prostate Cancer

TLDR Early baldness in men may indicate a higher risk of prostate cancer.
The study aimed to determine the association between early-onset male androgenetic alopecia (before age 31) and prostate cancer. Conducted at Hospital Carlos Andrade Marín from May to September 2015, it included men over 18 with confirmed prostate cancer and a control group of men over 18 without neoplasms. Results showed a significant association, with an odds ratio (OR) of 4.25 (95% CI 1.7-10, p=0.001), indicating that men with early-onset androgenetic alopecia had a higher risk of developing prostate cancer. However, no statistical difference was found between the severity of prostate cancer and the clinical pattern of alopecia. The study suggested that early-onset androgenetic alopecia could be considered a risk indicator for prostate cancer, warranting screening in affected individuals.
