TLDR Dutasteride effectively treats hair loss in men who don't respond to finasteride.
This study assessed the effectiveness of dutasteride in treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 90 men who did not respond to finasteride. Over 24 weeks, patients took 0.5 mg of dutasteride daily. Results showed significant improvements: 85.6% had decreased vertex spot size, 92.2% had reduced hair loss on the scalp, 96.7% had less hair shedding, and 94.4% reported better hair quality. Clinically, 44.5% were moderately improved, 33.3% greatly improved, and 20% slightly improved. Side effects included decreased libido (3.3%) and erectile dysfunction (2.2%). The study concluded that dutasteride is an effective and safe alternative for AGA treatment, especially for those unresponsive to finasteride.
