Efficacy and Safety of a Domestic Hair Follicle Extraction System in Patients with Androgenetic Alopecia: A Multicenter, Prospective, Randomized, Self-Controlled Clinical Trial

TLDR The domestic hair follicle extraction system is as effective and safe as traditional FUE.
This study compared the efficacy and safety of a domestic hair follicle extraction system with traditional follicular unit excision (FUE) in 55 patients with androgenetic alopecia. The trial was conducted across multiple centers and involved a randomized, self-controlled design. Results showed that the hair transection rate was slightly higher in the experimental group (6.65%) compared to the control group (5.28%), but the difference was not statistically significant. The hair follicle unit loss rate was significantly higher in the experimental group (2.00%) than in the control group (0.50%). There was no significant difference in hair density change at the recipient site on postoperative day 14 between the two groups. Both groups showed improvement in hair density at the 9-month follow-up. Mild folliculitis occurred in 12.72% of subjects in both groups. Overall, the domestic system demonstrated comparable efficacy and safety to traditional FUE.
