TLDR Telogen effluvium most affects quality of life in alopecia patients.
This study assessed the quality of life (QoL) impact of various types of alopecia using the Skindex-29 and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) in a Colombian cohort. Conducted in Medellín with a longitudinal design, it included two measurements over time. The study found that telogen effluvium (TE) had the greatest QoL impact, followed by alopecia areata (AA), dissecting cellulitis, and lichen planus pilaris. The Colombian versions of Skindex-29 and DLQI demonstrated moderate responsiveness in evaluating QoL changes in patients with both scarring and non-scarring alopecia before and after treatment. Women comprised 51% of the participants, with androgenic alopecia being the most common type at 52%.
