TLDR Dermoscopy is a good, noninvasive way to see normal cat skin structures and could be useful for check-ups.
The study investigated the effectiveness of dermoscopy for examining the skin of 21 healthy domestic short-haired cats. Using a hand-held dermoscope at 10x magnification and a videodermoscope at 70x magnification, the researchers compared dermoscopic images to histological samples of the cats' skin. They found that primary and secondary hairs, as well as the arrangement of vessels, were clearly visible with both dermoscopic methods, and these observations matched the histological analysis. The study concluded that dermoscopy is a valid, noninvasive, and reproducible method for identifying normal skin structures in cats, and it holds potential for clinical examination, although further research is needed to establish its diagnostic value.
