TLDR Dermoscopy is effective in diagnosing facial actinic keratosis using specific features.
The study evaluated the use of dermoscopy in differentiating facial actinic keratosis (AK) from other conditions. It involved 43 lesions confirmed as AK and 22 lesions initially suspected as AK but diagnosed as other conditions. The study found that certain dermoscopic features, such as perifollicular white halos, pseudonetwork erythema, and follicular yellow keratotic plugs, were significantly more frequent in AK lesions. These features, when combined, provided the highest diagnostic value with a sensitivity of 90.70% and specificity of 81.82%. The study concluded that these dermoscopic features were particularly useful in diagnosing facial AK.
