TLDR Dermoscopy helps diagnose folliculotropic mycosis fungoides by identifying specific skin patterns.
This study analyzed 11 patients with folliculotropic mycosis fungoides (FMF) in nonscalp areas, focusing on dermoscopic features to aid early diagnosis and treatment. Common clinical patterns included hair loss (90.9%), follicular papules (81.8%), and red patches (72.7%). Dermoscopic analysis showed consistent features like obliteration of follicles, loss of terminal hair follicles, and hair loss, with frequent findings of follicular accentuation, broken hairs, and dilation of follicular openings. These patterns help differentiate FMF from other dermatoses, though they are not entirely specific, indicating a need for larger studies to enhance diagnostic accuracy. Dermoscopy is emphasized as crucial for diagnosing FMF and distinguishing it from other follicular disorders.
