TLDR During COVID-19, Iraqi women experienced more hair loss and skin issues like acne, likely due to stress and mask-wearing.
The study of 2,657 Iraqi women revealed significant changes in dermatological conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a notable increase in hair loss, particularly telogen effluvium, likely due to stress and fever from COVID-19. Viral infections decreased, possibly due to reduced social interactions. Acne, rosacea, and seborrheic dermatitis increased, potentially linked to mask-wearing, while psoriasis and alopecia areata decreased, though not significantly. The study suggested these shifts were related to pandemic stress, social behavior changes, and mask use. Limitations included its single-center design and short duration, which might not reflect seasonal variations.
