TLDR The skin conditions of Iraqi women changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, with more hair loss and skin irritation but fewer contagious skin infections.
The study examined skin conditions in 2657 Iraqi women before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, finding a significant increase in hair loss, specifically telogen effluvium, and a decrease in cutaneous contagious viral infections. Other conditions such as acne vulgaris, rosacea, and seborrheic dermatitis increased, possibly due to stress or mask wearing, while all other types of dermatitis decreased. There was also an increase in irritant contact dermatitis, likely due to overuse of antiseptic agents and frequent hand and face washing. The study was limited by being a single center study and data was only measured over a short period.
