TLDR MS patients often have skin issues, so regular skin checks are important.
The study aimed to examine dermatological diseases in individuals diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune central nervous system disease. It included 45 patients diagnosed with relapsing-remitting or progressive-relapsing MS according to McDonald criteria. Detailed dermatological examinations revealed 18 main groups of dermatological diseases, with the most common being nevi (62.22%), hair diseases (60%), benign neoplasms (57.77%), oral mucosal diseases (55.55%), infectious dermatoses (48.88%), and xerosis cutis (48.88%). The study concluded that there was insufficient data on dermatological diseases accompanying MS, and that inflammatory pathways, vitamin deficiencies, and medications used for MS treatment could lead to dermatological findings. Comprehensive dermatological examinations in MS patients were deemed important for early diagnosis and treatment.
