TLDR Many LGBTQ individuals in Lahore face skin issues, with androgenic alopecia, dry skin, and scabies being common, highlighting the need for better healthcare access and provider training.
The study surveyed 143 LGBTQ individuals in Lahore, Pakistan, primarily transwomen, with an average age of 53.29 years, to assess dermatological conditions. It found that 64% of participants had dermatological issues, with androgenic alopecia (18.18%), generalized xerosis (11.19%), and scabies (11.19%) being the most common. The study highlights the socio-economic challenges faced by this population, including low education and employment levels, and emphasizes the need for healthcare providers to be trained in addressing specific dermatological concerns, particularly those related to hormone therapy and surgeries, to improve healthcare access and reduce discrimination. Limitations include its focus on a single urban area, indicating a need for broader research.
