TLDR Extramammary Paget disease can spread deeply into tissues, reaching up to 3.6 mm.
Extramammary Paget disease (EMPD) often involved adnexal structures, such as hair follicles and eccrine ducts, which facilitated deeper tissue spread. In a study of 178 lesions from 146 patients, the maximal depth of carcinomatous spread was 3.6 mm. This significant potential for deep spread should be considered when planning topical or novel local treatments for EMPD.
