Cutaneous Absorption of Nanostructured Chitin with Natural Synergistic Molecules (Lutein)
April 2008
TLDR Chitin nanofibrils can improve skin health and help deliver active ingredients into the skin.
The study investigated the properties of chitin nanofibrils, highlighting their hydrophilic nature and ability to influence cell behavior by acting as a microenvironmental stimulus. Chitin was found to be similar to dextran in trapping growth factors and stimulating cell proliferation, making it a bioactive polymer that promotes skin health and indirectly affects the hair follicle cycle. The research suggested that chitin's hydrophilicity could generate osmotic stress, impacting cell biology. The study proposed that chitin nanofibril solutions could serve as effective carriers for biologically active dermato-cosmetological molecules, enhancing their penetration into the skin.
