TLDR A new antiandrogen compound was made and its detailed three-dimensional shape was described.
The document reported the synthesis and crystal structure of a new antiandrogen compound, 17-ß-Benzoyloxy-16-ß-methylpregna-4,6-diene-3,20-dione. The synthesis utilized known reactions, including a key step that achieved an inversion of configuration to form the benzoate ester. Crystallographic analysis showed the compound has three six-membered rings and one five-membered ring in trans fusion, with the six-membered rings adopting a distorted envelope conformation and the five-membered ring in a distorted chair and half chair conformation. The structure was determined using a Siemens P4 diffractometer, and the crystal belonged to a monoclinic system with space group P2₁. The compound had typical bond lengths and angles, with molecules packed at standard van der Waals distances in the crystal. The stability of the molecule and its crystal form was attributed to intramolecular and intermolecular C-H...O interactions.
