Investigation on the Correlation Between Treatment Course and Clinical Efficacy in Treatment of Male Pattern Alopecia with Finasteride
January 2006
TLDR Longer finasteride treatment improves male pattern hair loss, with significant results at 12 months.
The study investigated the correlation between treatment duration and efficacy of finasteride (1 mg) in treating male pattern alopecia (MPA) over 24 months with 177 patients. Photos were taken at 6, 12, 18, and 24 months to assess progress. Results showed that the efficacy improved with longer treatment duration, with the most significant improvement observed at 12 months. The remarkable effective rates and total effective rates increased over time, with the highest efficacy noted at 24 months. The study concluded that there was a positive correlation between the duration of treatment and its efficacy, particularly noting significant results at 12 months.
