TLDR Copeptin and cortisol levels are higher in alopecia areata patients, suggesting they could help diagnose and manage the condition.
This study examined the role of stress biomarkers, copeptin and cortisol, in 120 participants, including 60 patients with alopecia areata (AA) and 60 healthy controls, in Babylon Governorate. Results indicated significantly higher levels of these biomarkers in AA patients, suggesting their potential as stress indicators. A strong positive correlation between copeptin and cortisol was found in pediatric patients, but not in adults. The study concludes that copeptin and cortisol could be useful for diagnosing AA, with copeptin showing high sensitivity and specificity, thus offering a potential pathway for better management and understanding of the condition.
