TLDR Keep using minoxidil for hair loss, as it works better long-term.
The study followed 31 men with androgenetic alopecia who used topical minoxidil for 4.5-5 years after a year-long study. Hair regrowth peaked at 1 year and then declined but remained significantly above baseline levels. Twice-daily therapy sustained nonvellus hair growth more than once-daily minoxidil application. The study suggests that topical minoxidil should be continued for long-term efficacy in treating androgenetic alopecia.
