TLDR Minoxidil can cause skin reactions, so testing is important for those with side effects.
The document reported that 67 patients using topical minoxidil for hair loss developed contact dermatitis, with 25 showing a positive patch test reaction to minoxidil, and one also reacting to propylene glycol. Additionally, two patients had a positive photopatch test despite a negative patch test. The study suggested that minoxidil was a common sensitizer among topical drugs, particularly in long-term users. It recommended conducting patch and photopatch tests for patients experiencing local side effects to identify those sensitized to minoxidil, as patients with irritative dermatitis could often continue treatment. Identifying sensitized individuals was deemed crucial for effective patient counseling.
