TLDR Connexin 30 is usually absent in normal skin but can appear in certain skin conditions.
The study investigated the expression of Connexin 30 (Cx30) in the epidermis of patients with hyperproliferative skin conditions, including radiation-induced hyperplasia, psoriasis, and porokeratosis of Mibelli. In normal skin samples, Cx30 was not detected in the interfollicular epidermis. Similarly, no Cx30 expression was found in the margin of lesions or control skin of irradiated patients. A faint expression of Cx30 was observed in the normal heel skin of a patient with porokeratosis of Mibelli and in some epidermal appendages, such as sweat glands, ducts, and the outer root sheath of hair follicles. The study concluded that Cx30 expression is generally absent in normal interfollicular epidermis but can be faintly present in specific skin structures and conditions.
