TLDR Combining microneedling with Q-switched laser treatment for tattoo removal did not improve results and caused more pain.
The document reports a case study of a 26-year-old woman undergoing tattoo removal treatment. The study aimed to compare the effectiveness of isolated Q-switched laser (QSL) treatment with a combination of QSL and microneedling. The patient received three sessions of Nd:YAG Q-switched laser treatment on her black-inked abdominal tattoo, with the caudal half of the tattoo also receiving microneedling immediately after the laser treatment. The results showed a slight decrease in pigmentation across the entire tattoo, but no significant difference between the area treated with QSL alone and the area treated with the combination of QSL and microneedling. Additionally, the microneedling increased the pain experienced by the patient without providing any visible benefits. The study concluded that the combined technique did not demonstrate any advantages over QSL alone, although it suggests that further clinical experiences are necessary to fully evaluate the efficacy of the combined treatment.
