TLDR Finasteride effectively inhibits 5α reductase, while plant extracts like Permixon and Bazoton don't show significant results.
The study compared the effectiveness of finasteride, a 5α reductase inhibitor, with various plant extracts in inhibiting 5α reductase in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that finasteride was a potent and specific 5α reductase inhibitor, while plant extracts such as Permixon and Bazoton did not have significant 5α reductase inhibitory activity in men. The study suggests that other plant extracts should be studied in animal models and clinical trials to define their possible mechanisms of action.
