TLDR 4-META resin heals skin wounds faster and better than cyanoacrylate.
The study, which involved 30 rats, compared the wound healing effects of 4-META/MMA-TBB resin (4-META resin) to cyanoacrylate on skin defects. It was found that 4-META resin-treated wounds exhibited faster epithelial coverage and complete closure by day 7, whereas cyanoacrylate-treated wounds took until day 14 to close. The 4-META resin also resulted in a more controlled immune response, less granulation tissue, and did not inhibit hair follicle formation as much as cyanoacrylate. Histologically, 4-META resin-treated wounds showed better healing and regeneration of dermal appendages like hair follicles within 14 days, while cyanoacrylate-treated wounds healed more slowly without hair follicle regeneration. The study concluded that 4-META resin is more effective and biocompatible for promoting wound healing than cyanoacrylate, which may obstruct healing due to inflammation and tissue necrosis caused by formic aldehyde generation.
