Comparative Hair Restorer Efficacy of Medicinal Herb on Nude (Foxn1 nu ) Mice

The study conducted in 2014 examined the hair growth promoting potential of three medicinal herbs: Eclipta alba, Asiasarum sieboldii, and Panax ginseng on nude mice, which genetically lack hair. The results showed that Eclipta alba extract significantly increased hair length, hair density, and the number of hair follicles compared to the control group and the other two extracts. The Eclipta alba treated mice also showed an early onset of anagen hair morphogenesis and a significant increase in the number of bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU)-labeled keratinocytes per anagen follicle, indicating increased cell proliferation. The study also identified the presence of wedelolactone, a bioactive phytochemical, in the Eclipta alba extract. The other two extracts, Asiasarum sieboldii and Panax ginseng, showed less significant effects on hair growth. The study concluded that Eclipta alba extract could be a safe and effective alternative topical medicine for hair growth therapy.
