TLDR Combining microdermabrasion with steroid injections improves hair regrowth in scalp alopecia areata.
The study investigated a new combination therapy for treating scalp Alopecia Areata (AA) by combining high negative pressure microdermabrasion (MD) with intralesional steroid (ILST) injections. The researchers compared the effectiveness of this combination therapy to ILST alone. The results indicated that the combination therapy showed improved hair regrowth outcomes compared to ILST alone, suggesting that the addition of MD could enhance the therapeutic effects of ILST in treating AA. This study provided a promising new approach for managing AA, which affects 0.1-0.2% of the population and has been increasing in incidence.
