TLDR Oral retinoic acid effectively treated collodion baby, with hair loss as the main side effect.
The study presented a case series involving five newborns with collodion baby syndrome, treated with oral retinoic acid (0.5–1 mg/kg/day). The treatment led to significant clinical improvements in skin and eye conditions by the 7th-10th day, with mild hair loss as the only adverse effect. Patients were discharged between the 11th and 42nd days, continuing on a reduced dosage. The findings suggested that oral retinoic acid could be a promising therapeutic option for managing severe ichthyosis, though further experience and monitoring for long-term effects were necessary.
