TLDR Cancer patients with COVID-19 face higher risks due to possible additional infections.
This case report discussed the clinical presentation and significance of coinfections in cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. It highlighted the first two cases at the Instituto Nacional de Cancerología, ESE, where patients with malignancies were diagnosed with COVID-19 and experienced coinfections. The symptoms of COVID-19 ranged from mild illness to severe respiratory failure, shock, and multiorgan dysfunction. The report emphasized the complexity and increased risk faced by cancer patients when infected with SARS-CoV-2, particularly due to the potential for additional infections.
