TLDR Shampoos with sodium lauroyl methylaminopropionate improve hair lubrication and reduce irritation.
This study examines the coacervate formation and lubrication properties of hair shampoos using amino acid surfactants, specifically LMA, LAP, and LMT. It was found that LMA-based systems have a broader coacervate formation region, indicating superior coacervate production and friction-reducing ability on hair compared to LAP and LMT. The presence of amphoteric and nonionic surfactants also significantly affects coacervate formation. The findings suggest that LMA is particularly effective in reducing hair friction, enhancing lubricity and combability during washing and rinsing, and could guide the selection of surfactants for shampoos with improved conditioning effects.
