TLDR Benign skin adnexal tumors are more common than malignant ones, with trichoepithelioma and chondroid syringoma being the most frequent types.
In a cross-sectional descriptive study conducted over a one-year period, out of 43,586 new patients attending an outpatient department, 64 (0.14%) cases of appendageal tumors were suspected. Of these, 60 underwent histopathological examination, with 42 (70%) cases being confirmed as appendageal tumors. The tumors were categorized into hair follicle tumors, with trichoepithelioma being the most common (18/42, 42.85%), and sweat gland tumors, with chondroid syringoma being the most common (12/42, 28.57%). Females represented a higher percentage of the cases (61.90%) compared to males (38.09%). The study concluded that benign appendageal tumors are more common than malignant ones and that histopathology is the gold standard for diagnosing these tumors.
