TLDR Age, hair loss duration, menopause, and specific treatments affect hair density and caliber in female hair loss patients.
A retrospective study of 602 female androgenetic alopecia patients found that age, duration of hair loss, and menopausal status were significant factors affecting hair density and caliber. Treatment with minoxidil and spironolactone were associated with higher hair density and caliber, while treatment with oral contraceptives or finasteride did not show a significant association. The study suggests that early intervention and specific treatment regimens may be beneficial for improving hair density and caliber in female androgenetic alopecia patients. However, the study does not establish causation and further research is necessary.
