TLDR Monilethrix causes brittle hair and hair loss, and it runs in families.
Monilethrix is a genetic condition affecting the hair shaft, characterized by brittle hair and diffuse alopecia. A 10-year-old female patient exhibited hypotrichosis and hair shaft ruptures at various levels, with a nodular appearance visible to the naked eye. Other family members showed similar symptoms, suggesting an autosomal dominant inheritance. Microscopic analysis revealed elliptical nodular areas and dystrophic constrictions in the hair fibers.
