TLDR Balneophototherapy effectively treats ichthyosis linearis circumflexa but may need ongoing treatment due to short remission.
The study reported on a 13-year-old boy with severe ichthyosis linearis circumflexa who was treated with balneophototherapy, which involved salt water baths and artificial UVB radiation, 3–5 times weekly. After 40 treatments, the patient's skin lesions were almost completely cleared. Maintenance UVB monotherapy was then performed twice weekly for 2 months. However, the disease relapsed after 4 months. The study concluded that balneophototherapy was a potentially effective and well-tolerated treatment option for ichthyosis linearis circumflexa, but only short periods of remission could be expected, suggesting that intermittent treatment might be necessary to control the disease.
