TLDR Ciprofloxacin is slightly more effective than Clindamycin for reducing acne.
A study conducted at Baghdad Teaching Hospital evaluated the effectiveness of topical Ciprofloxacin and Clindamycin solutions in treating mild to moderate acne vulgaris. Sixty-six patients participated, divided equally into two groups, each receiving either Ciprofloxacin 2% or Clindamycin 1.5%. After 12 weeks, both groups showed a significant reduction in acne severity index, with Ciprofloxacin achieving a 32.3% reduction and Clindamycin a 31.8% reduction. While both treatments were effective, Ciprofloxacin showed a statistically significant greater reduction in papules and pustules compared to Clindamycin. Both solutions demonstrated antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
