TLDR Cinnamon bark extract may help prevent weight loss and hair loss in breast cancer patients during chemotherapy and is safe to use.
In a study conducted on 34 female breast cancer patients, the supplementation with IND02, a standardized Cinnamon bark extract, was evaluated for its effectiveness in preventing chemotherapy-induced side effects such as weight loss and alopecia. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial administered IND02 capsules (400 mg, thrice daily) or a placebo during the first four 21-day cycles of standard chemotherapy. The results indicated that patients treated with IND02 experienced significant protection against severe weight loss and hair loss compared to the placebo group. Additionally, IND02 was found to be safe and well-tolerated. The study concluded that IND02 shows promise as a concomitant treatment for preventing weight loss and alopecia in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
