TLDR Chinese burn and plastic surgery guidelines need better transparency and evidence quality.
The study evaluates the quality of Chinese guidelines and consensus on burn and plastic surgery published in 2022 using the STAR rating tool. It highlights that while there is a significant number of expert consensuses (14 in total, with 11 in plastic surgery and 3 in burn surgery), there are no formal guidelines. The average STAR rating score for these consensuses was 43.89, indicating room for improvement, particularly in transparency and evidence evaluation. The study emphasizes the need for better protocol and evidence quality in guideline development, recommending the use of the GRADE system for grading evidence. The findings serve as a call to action for medical professionals to enhance the scientific nature, transparency, and applicability of guideline reports.
