Studysummary In this study, researchers found that a combination of celery and candlenut extracts significantly increased hair length in male Wistar rats, while hair weight increased with either extract alone or combined, and hair thickness was most improved with candlenut extract alone. Our plain-language summary of this paper — not a Tressless recommendation.
This study investigated the effects of celery leaf extract, candlenut extract, and their combination on hair growth in 24 male Wistar rats. The rats were divided into four groups: control, celery extract, candlenut extract, and a combination of both extracts. Treatments were applied twice daily for 14 days. Results showed that the combination of celery and candlenut extracts led to the greatest increase in hair length (0.96 cm), while all treatment groups had the same hair weight (0.09 grams). The candlenut extract group had the highest number of anagen hair (6 strands). Significant differences in hair length and weight were observed between all treatment groups and the control group. The study concluded that the combination of extracts was most effective for increasing hair length, while candlenut extract alone was most effective for increasing hair thickness.
