TLDR Experts agree on the need for standardized definitions and education for post-COVID-19 conditions.
The Brazilian pulmonology guidelines, developed through a Delphi panel of 69 experts, aimed to standardize the understanding of post-COVID-19 conditions. The study found that 84% of participants recognized post-COVID-19 as a pathological condition, with "long COVID-19" being the most suggested term (49%). The preferred duration to define post-COVID-19 conditions was after 3 months (34%) or 4 weeks (28%). Key risk factors included smoking, age >60 years, obesity, and pre-existing cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Common symptoms included fatigue, cough, anosmia, anxiety/depression, and memory loss. The study emphasized the need for standardized definitions and educational actions to improve clinical practice and research.
