TLDR Blue laser light reduces energy in mouse skin cells and creates harmful oxygen compounds, possibly harming the cells.
The study investigated the effects of blue laser irradiation (405 nm) on ATP levels in mouse skin and on L929 mouse fibroblasts. The results showed that blue laser irradiation decreased ATP levels in mouse skin and increased the production of reactive oxygen species, specifically superoxide anion and hypochlorous acid. However, nitric oxide and peroxynitrite were not detected. The irradiation also resulted in reduced cell viability. The decrease in ATP levels is believed to be caused by increased oxidative stress due to the generation of reactive oxygen species. The study suggests caution when using blue laser irradiation due to its potential to induce oxidative stress and affect cell viability.
